More

In this journey called life I believe that each and every one of us is truly searching for more. More of what you ask? I can’t quite say what that is for everybody, but I can make a guess and say that some people are searching for more knowledge, more love, more money, more time, more experiences, more spirituality, more (insert your more here).

I think in some minds the thought of more is bad, almost sinful in nature. When you express your idea alone some people may e en think you to be gluttonous.

We see this a lot when it comes to money. It’s been said that money is the root of all evil. First off, people misquote this all of the time. The right way to quote it is, “The LOVE of money is the root of all evil.” Money itself is but a tool that can empower you to do more and more, whether good or bad, throughout one’s life.

Now, I can totally spin this whole thing around as well and say less is more. For some people this is completely correct. Take the tiny house movement for example. I find it fascinating and wouldn’t mind living in a tiny home myself.

On the surface, the movement seems to be counteractive towards the rest of society, where consumers just want more and more things and the newest things as well. When you peel back some layers though, the people building and living in tiny homes are still trying to find more of something too, be it peace of mind, time, freedom or maybe the longing to be more associated with a group that’s impacting the world.

Where exactly am I going with this?

The point I’m trying to get across is the fact that within society we often times view the thought of wanting more as a bad thing. People send us on a guilt trip when we go out and buy the newest toy or go on a vacation or just really go after anything we want in life.

What I’m here to say though is that I believe we should stop feeling guilty about wanting more. We humans are but an incredibly tiny blip of energy that are fortunate enough to have the ability to live the lives that we do. Don’t waste your life trying to please others.

Now of course, I’m not saying that there’s nothing wrong with wanting more in totality. There are certainly greedy people out there who only want more for their own personal gain or to cause harm to others and all of that, but it’s a belief of mine that people are not inherently bad and these people are few and far between.

I’ll be completely honest with you and say that I want more. I want more freedom, more money, more love, and more of a lot of other things because it just makes life better. That’s what this blog is kind of about. I’d like to get more out of life and that’s what I’m working towards achieving. By having more in my life I’m also able to give more to others and that’s what it’s all about to me.

Maybe I’m totally wrong as well and people don’t really want more and everyone wants less, but due to societal pressures we have this ongoing need and pressure to just keep consuming because if we don’t then we get knocked down the societal food chain and people never look at us the same. At the same time those who are on the quest to have less material things are on the same quest to gain more in non-tangible qualities such as freedom.

It’s also quite possible that I’m just ranting about something I’m curious about and that’s been on my mind!

I’d like to know what you think. Leave a comment below about what more, or perhaps less, you’d like in life and why.

Thanks!
