Crushing Your Goals in 2019!

“New Year, New Me!” “Last year sucked, 2019 is going to be so much better!” “I know it’s my year.”

These words sound familiar? Maybe you’ve seen or heard your friends say them or maybe you’ve said them yourself?

Well, we’re already a week into 2019! How are you coming along with that new you and your big resolution you set for yourself? Ready for 2020 yet?

If you feel like this New Year hasn’t been working out that well for you, don’t fret! It’s still early and I’m here to help you get back on track and crush it this year!

I think we can all agree that at any one time within a year we can set a resolution for ourselves and start working towards it, but the New Year seems to be a perfect time for us to reflect back on the previous year and allow ourselves a chance a new beginning for the next 365 days.

Unfortunately, studies show that only 25% of people stick to their resolution after 30 days and only 8% actually go on to accomplish them.  I think we should kick those statistics in the ass and go crush it in 2019!

How do we go about doing that though?

You probably already have a resolution in mind.  Something like, workout more and lose weight, eat healthier food, gain control of your finances.  While those are all worthy endeavors, they’re also massive decisions that have no clarity on what the actual desired result is. Nor is there a plan set in place on how to accomplish it.

A huge thing you can do for yourself to help gain some clarity is to put your resolution into the form of goals.

Instead of what seems like a behemoth of a resolution, goals can help you define and narrow down what you’d truly like to kick ass at this year and give you a way to measure your accomplishments.

You say, “Okay then, I have goals and I know what my desired result is.  That’s not the issue.  The problem I’m facing is actually accomplishing it.”

The first thing I’ll say is that going after your goals is never easy.  We get really excited at first with the thought of how our bodies will look or how much money we can have. The first week or maybe month we have that motivation and drive to keep going.  Then life happens and or you’re not seeing results fast enough and the motivation seems to disappear. Next thing you know it’s a few months down the road, that goal of yours went to the back of your mind and you have nothing to show for the year.

Trust me.  I’ve been there plenty of times myself.  I’m attempting to change that in 2019 and following below are some ways to make the process just a tad bit simpler in order to make this year the best one yet!

I love to make things simple to understand and remember so to help me with accomplishing goals I think of 3 C’s:

  1. Choice
  2. Commitment
  3. Consistency

Making a Choice

You have your goal and you know what you want, but have you really made the choice to go accomplish it?  In other words, do you truly BELIEVE you can make it happen?  This is the first major hurdle to accomplishing any goal, because if you have doubt in your head that you won’t be able to follow through or succeed, then you’re setting yourself up for failure from the very beginning.  That’s not what we want!

If you’re looking at your goal and it seems too big and daunting to the point that you may be second guessing yourself or feeling some doubt, then just take a moment to re-examine the goal.  Maybe you could adjust it into smaller goals that allow you to have “small wins” along the way or maybe you realize it’s just not something you’d truly like to accomplish this year or ever.  That’s totally okay!  It’s your life and you know what you want better than anyone else.

However, the first step to accomplish any goal and truly crush it is to make that Choice to actually go do it.  It’s all in your control.

Being Committed

Alright, you’ve made the choice to keep moving forward, be brave, and create your own destiny by tackling your goal.  That’s awesome!  I won’t lie though, there’s going to be a lot of work that you have to put in now.  Because of this, you need to be Committed to your goal.  You have to make that promise to yourself that you’re going to do whatever it takes to reach a new level and continue pushing forward when the going gets tough and you feel like giving up.

This is no easy task.  It’s so easy to tell yourself you’re committed to something, go do it for a week, get discouraged because you don’t see the progress you were hoping for yet and then decide to give up.  You always have next year right? Wrong!  If you want something then start working towards it now!  Even just a small victory within yourself can help boost confidence and change the trajectory of your life.

As Epictetus so greatly put, “How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself?”

Go out there, make the Choice, and Commit to crushing your goal!  You’ll thank me later.

Staying Consistent

The third, final C and in my opinion by far the most important is consistency.  I may not be considered uber successful in the eyes of some folks (yet, that is) but I know from personal experience that when you stay consistent with a goal by taking daily, weekly, and monthly actions when you need to, then you’re going to hit your goal and desired result.

Consistency probably isn’t the secret to success that you’d like to hear, but it’s true.

Believe me, I know it’s not easy to stay consistent all the time.  It’s a freaking struggle.

You don’t always feel like tackling your goal someday.  Some mornings you’ll wake up and not feel like going to the gym, or working on that special project, or just interacting with other people.  There’s nothing wrong with that because everyone has an off day or doesn’t feel like doing something.  However, what separates those who accomplish their goals and those who do not is Consistency.  Taking the actions needed to reach a desired result even when you’re not in the mood or don’t feel like it.

You’ve made the Choice to make 2019 your best year yet. You’ve made the promise to yourself that you’re going to crush your goals and your 100% Committed. Now it’s time to be Consistent and take the daily actions needed, no matter what, to go succeed and be a total badass this year!

I’ll be wishing the best! And remember, if you feel the struggle coming on, feel free to reach out to me and I’ll be there for you!  We can reach that goal together.
