Finding a Second Job

Off we go!

Yes, I work full time in the Air Force, but I want a second job. I don’t really need the money, but I have some pretty big goals and I could use more money to help speed some things up and accomplish more.

I know for starters I don’t want to work in fast food. Nothing against it, I just don’t want to do it and with those jobs you usually start out at minimum wage.

With a second job I’d like make enough to cover my expenses. I’d need to make $1,100 a month or $275 a week. If I can find a part-time job and work around 25 hours each week earning $11 an hour then I’d be on my way (I realize there’s still taxes and what not but I’m just trying to keep it simple).

My first challenge of all of this is creating a resume. I’ve never made one and I’ve never done anything other than be in the military. I’m not really sure how much to write about or what exactly to write about.

Then I read something last night about a cover letter, so I guess that’s something else that I have to look into and see what I need to do.

I’ll definitely be getting out of my comfort zone by doing all of this and getting another job. Oh, and by working with customers, since most likely I’ll be working some sort of retail position.

So far I’m really thinking about applying at Barnes and Nobles. I’ve always loved bookstores. The feeling while being in one, the smell of the fresh books and the relaxed atmosphere. I could spend all day in a bookstore. Plus the discount would really help me out since I’m constantly buying myself books.

There’s a few other places people have mentioned to me that I may consider, but we’ll see.

One thing I may be concerned about, but that I’m just going to get over, is the fact of working seven days a week. My part time days would be short, but still. I’m going to do it anyway because I have to if I want to reach my goals. That’s what it all boils down to. I want to speed things up and the one way that I know is feasible for myself is to make more money by getting a second job. Just like Dave Ramsey says, If I live like no one else now, then later I’ll be able to live like no one else.

Also, it’s not like I have to stay at the job forever. If things become too much, I’ll be able to just say, “hey, that was a good experience. I’m going to go try something else and I don’t need to worry much because I still have a full time job to cover my ass for now.”

So yeah, I’ll be sure to keep you all posted and informed about how all of that goes and once I get accepted for a job you’ll be the first to know!

Thank you!
